Autumn Conference

Event: CABK Autumn Conference

Dates: Friday 17th – Sunday 19th November 2017

Venue: Woodside Hotel, Kenilworth.

Programme: The format will be as last year, seven lectures spread at a leisurely pace from Friday evening to Sunday lunchtime. The CABK Annual Dinner will be on the Saturday evening.

The speakers will include

  • Dr. Claire Carvell from the NERC Centre for Hydrology and Ecology, Wallingford who will talk about her research on habitat restoration for pollinators, and describe the new national monitoring programme they are setting up.
  • Dr. Michael Bencsik from Nottingham Trent University will give two talks, one describing his exciting work on the various communication signals within the hive and another discussing some of his latest unpublished work.
  • Professor Steve Martin from Salford University is always a popular speaker with the CABK and he will give an update on his work on varroa and deformed wing virus (DWV).
  • Dr. Declan Schroeder from Plymouth Marine Biological Association has recently completed work, some jointly with Steve Martin, on DWV. The localisation of the viruses in various tissues was studied and he will describe the honeybee cell culture facility that has been set up.
