How will our bees cope with a warming world, on top of existing disease and environmental challenges?
This talk will explore some work on these aspects for the Irish Apicultural Programme.

Summary: “The Irish Apicultural Programme, funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine seeks to understand the impacts of multiple stressors on honey bees. As part of this we are investigating the influence of thermal stress in a warming environment, and the potentially multiplicative impacts of co-infection with multiple pathogens and multiple pesticide exposure.”

“I am a molecular ecologist working on the impact of multiple stressors on honey bees. In my research career I mostly use genetic tools to understand the environment around us. I have used this approach to provide insight into a variety of different environmental challenges, such as pollination services, successfully restoring forests and quantifying and protecting bird diversity in the tropics.”
